If the attachment or the load obstructs your view, you must implement the following corrective measures immediately. Never operate blindly.
1. Reverse Travel (Rearward Operation)
When a front-mounted attachment—especially a high-capacity bucket, tall forestry cutter, or long fork load—blocks forward visibility, the operator must travel in reverse.
Maintain a controlled, low speed.
Utilize the rear window, side mirrors, and backup cameras to monitor the direction of travel.
2. Designated Spotters and Signalpersons
In environments where visibility is severely compromised (e.g., side-mounted attachments, large blind spots, or confined spaces), a trained ground spotter must be deployed.
3. Auxiliary Vision Systems & Lighting
Ensure all visibility aids are clean and functional to eliminate "blind zones."
Cameras & Radar: Utilize high-definition rear-view cameras and object-detection radar systems if equipped.
Work Lights: In low-light conditions, ensure all LED work lights are active and correctly angled to illuminate the attachment’s working edge.
Maintenance: Replace cracked mirrors and clean dusty lenses before every shift.
4. Environmental & Weather Restrictions
Operation is strictly prohibited in conditions where ambient visibility falls below safe levels, including:
Inadequate Lighting: Night operations without sufficient site-wide or machine-mounted lighting.
Inclement Weather: Dense fog, heavy rain, or whiteout snow conditions that obscure the perimeter or personnel.
5. Warning Protocols for Blind Corners
When approaching intersections, corners, or any area where the view is obstructed:
Reduce Speed: Slow down significantly before reaching the blind spot.
Audible Warnings: Sound the horn to alert pedestrians and other equipment operators.
